Sling TV launched its streaming service on Monday, saying that it will soon add AMC to its basic $20 online bundle of channels, which would make it the most complete offering of sports, news, premium shows and lifestyle channels for the Internet.
Exciting news. I'm a happy subscriber. There aren't many industries more opposed to what are clearly the wishes of the majority than cable companies. While I don't know if Sling TV will be the Internet TV provider of the future, it's clearly a step in the right direction and will blow this whole category wide open for other players to step in. However, it still needs to be easier for the average househould to be able to get on board. Too many pieces involved right now. You need an over-the-air atenna to get the national networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.), and you need a supported internet-connected player of some kind to watch Sling TV on your television (hopefully a native AppleTV app will be added soon). But I love where this is going. The times are changing.
